If there was one message that was delivered clear as day during this year’s ACM, it was this: Don’t mess with those ladies, y’all.
While there were a lot of great performances, funny moments, and touching tributes during the 2016 American Country Music awards, it was without a doubt the ladies who ruled the night.
Carrie Underwood absolutely dominated her performance of her highly anticipated television debut of “Church Bells.” Her edgy look and flawless vocals were mesmerizing.
And speaking of mesmerizing, it was then Miranda Lambert’s turn to knock the crowd right out of their seats with a hard rocking rendition of Z.Z. Top’s classic anthem, “Tush.” As if her screaming vocals weren’t enough to bring the house down, she managed to wrangle The Bearded One himself, Billy Gibbons, to blast out an amazing guitar solo or two. (Oh, and Keith Urban was there to shred a little bit, too.)
But it was Queen Dolly and pop princess Katy Perry who won the night. Performing a medley of some of Dolly’s most iconic songs, the two singer-songwriters took turns belting out the words to some of country music’s most memorable songs. Starting appropriately with “Coat of Many Colors,” then moving into “Jolene,” and closing it up with “9 to 5.” There didn’t seem to be a single person in the audience not singing along and smiling with the blonde haired living legend. By the end of the performance, even Katy Perry was bowing down to Queen Dolly.
