Ultimate in social media snafu? Or the greatest marketing ploy of 2016?
Yesterday, Florida Georgia Line tweeted out a screen cap of a message thread between one of the singers and their “Wifey”. “Never gets old seeing those three words…” the caption read. The screen cap showed a message from “Wifey” that simply said, “Ok honey! I LOVE YOU!” That, however, isn’t what got the Twitterverse buzzing and country fans everywhere salivating.
Above the sweet message of love was a message from the sender: “Hey baby…Here’s my new number… Love YOU! 615-502-1831”.
“Ummmmm, did you really just tweet a phone number??” said a twitter follower named Andrea.
“Wifey or your number is exposed… Careful.” Said twitter follower Shelley.
While some shared their worry with the artists, others were just eager to talk to their favorite band. “LOVE! GONNA LEAVE A MESSAGE LATER!” said twitter follower Cassidy.
Turns out, it wasn’t a “whoops!” but rather a brilliant way for the boys of Florida Georgia Line to promote their new release, “H.O.L.Y.” (SO smart!) The clever ruse leads callers to a message from Brian and Tyler, and gives the caller a taste of their new music. Callers are also given the option to leave a message for the band.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a call to make.
