Never underestimate the power of a great Daddy.
While it might seem unfathomable to you or I, there were days when a young Carrie Underwood felt ugly, rundown, and unattractive. As anyone who has survived the social and hormonal warzone that is adolescence can tell you, middle school can be hell on your self-worth and confidence. This is an experience that Carrie shares with the rest of the world, and described such an incident recently.
“One day, when I was about 14 years old, I’d had a particularly rough day at school because I had been teased by a boy in one of my classes,” Underwood described recently in an interview with People magazine. “He made fun of my makeup.”
Feeling sad, embarrassed, and defeated, Carrie went home and wept. When it came to putting on make-up, Carrie was still a beginner. “Hey, I was just 14. … I was still learning how to do it.”
That night, completely unaware of what had happened at school, Carrie’s dad mentioned how pretty she was. “He had no clue about what happened that day, nor is he exactly the kind of guy to give out compliments like that freely,” Carrie recalled.
Carrie went on to describe how it was the most beautiful thing anyone had ever said to her, and that her Daddy’s words had “turned a bad day into a really good one.”
