What a wonderful ending to a milestone year for Kenny Rogers!
After having announced his impending retirement in 2015, Kenny Rogers was recognized and awarded the Artist of a Lifetime award during the CMT Artists of the Year ceremony.
In what is now being widely considered one of the biggest nights in country music, the CMT Artists of the Year award show honored Rogers for his contribution to not only the growth of the country music genre itself, but for his support of other artists and his work on television. “Kenny Rogers was one of the first-ever crossover artists,” said award presenter Dan Rather, an icon in his own right. “He’s a patriarch of the entire country music family.”
Rogers graciously accepted the honor, recalling moments from his childhood that influenced him, artists who inspired him, and expressing gratitude for the people who embraced him.
Congratulations Mr. Rogers on your award and on your retirement. But most of all, thank you for the many musical gifts you have given us.
