Love is easily the most powerful force in the universe. But when someone that we love is taken away from us, there can be a void that is impossible to fill. Sometimes, the best way to deal with that loss is to find ways to share those feelings.
When Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay lost his grandfather, he sought to heal his broken heart through composing a song in his grandfather’s memory. His partner, Shay Mooney, shared some thoughts about losses in his own life as well; the two of them ended up writing “From the Ground Up,” which is an autobiographical song about some special people in their lives who have passed away.
Although Dan has expressed some worries about its reception due to the personal nature of the song, it seems that country music enthusiasts have embraced the duo and are identifying with the song’s messages.
Despite losing family members, Dan + Shay chose to use their experiences to make something meaningful -- and we can always use a reminder of love’s inspirational power!
