Miranda Lambert’s ‘Rated X’ Tribute to Country’s Original Bad Girl

Things got edgy last year when Miranda covered a Loretta Lynn song during the ACM Honors at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Loretta has always been a major force in country music; she was one of the first women to take the country scene by storm, and is still considered the reigning queen of country even today.

Loretta’s gritty songs told it like it was, but were delivered so sweetly! Miranda Lambert echoes those sentiments in her own work today; she’s another female performer who doesn’t shy away at touchy topics in her songs. But she does it with such flair that people respect the honesty and showmanship.

Because they're two of a kind, it's only fitting that Miranda offered this tribute to Loretta. And what a performance it was!

Miranda looked gorgeous in a flirty pink and black dress, singing the scandalous “Rated X,” a song about how the assumptions of other people are often wrong.

Although the song was released in 1973, the words still ring true today. Country girls don’t need to choose between being sweet or being tough; they get to be both. And that suits us just fine!
