Rare Offstage Video of Toby Keith and Merle Haggard Made Us Laugh and Cry

One of country music’s most historical friendships has got to be the one that Merle Haggard shared with Toby Keith.

The two met years ago when Toby went backstage after one of Merle’s concerts; they became fast friends, and the rest is history!

The guys have played together countless times, both onstage as well as off.

Prior to performing for a CMT special, the two got together with another friend, artist Scott Emerick, on Toby’s bus during a moment caught in this rare footage.

The three took some time to hang out and jam together on two great classics: “I Take a Lot of Pride in What I Am,” and “It’s All in the Movies.”

It’s so uplifting to see the easy laughter and smiles between these friends as they played and sang together.

Obviously there was more than just mutual admiration between Toby and Merle; there was true friendship, cemented by a mutual passion for music.

Even with the sad passing of Merle Haggard earlier this year, his influence on country music will live forever.
